VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
- Access to our Supermarkets individual/team.. A persevering, creative and relational person is needed to contact the local supermarkets and convince them that the foodbank is not another charity with a money tin, that can have access to their customers in a year or so, joining the queue, but a local charity that asks their customers to buy more food from them, a charity where nationally, their fellow branch managers are building relationships with the foodbank and can share that its to their benefit if they partner with their local foodbank. This could be mostly phone/emailing/letter writing/networking, perhaps 2-3 hours a week.
- Agency team. A person/team to put together details of contacting agencies that have not yet heard of/shown an interest in the foodbank and share with them the vision of the foodbank. Perhaps 2-3 hours a week to chase up on any interest shown. (full training and support given)
- Fundraising team. Someone with an aptitude for filling in forms, searching out the right language to put down on various grants available from such sources as the Church Urban Fund, local grant making bodies etc
- Schools team. At least a 3rd of their food from harvest collections and around the year collections from local schools. This team will be following up on all of the harvest collection invites we are currently sending to the schools in our area (about 40 letters have been sent) perhaps for 2-3 hours a week’s work, you can follow up the letters with phone calls, asking if they have received the letter and would like to know more. As the team develops, willing group members could be trained to go and do assembly presentations (we have DVDs/power points etc) and work with the schools closer around harvest time and other festival times.
- Business and industry team. This team can contact the local businesses and industries, asking for there to be foodbank collection boxes in the staff rooms/sponsorship for foodbank staff/donations of finance, goods, manpower, resources etc. This would be an exciting group mission to share with the business community the vision of a town coming together to change the poverty tide to one of concern and action. Again, this could be 2-3 hours a week, emailing/phoning/writing..do you know any business people who could access a few listening ears??
- Collectors and distributors. Volunteers required for periodic supermarket collections and for issue of food parcels at the foodbank on Monday or Friday afternoons.
